YCLA: 2008 YCLA Tournament

The YCLA Tournament is an annual tradition for York County Lacrosse Association member clubs. Each year clubs participate in the tournament, which provides an exciting finale to the lacrosse season. The information on this page is specific to the 2008 YCLA Tournament.

The YCLA Tournament is an invitational tournament, with invitations extended to all YCLA member clubs.

The tournament is held at the U9, U11, U13, U15 and JV levels. At the lower levels (U9 and U11) the tournament is played in a True Swiss format. All all other levels (U13, U15 and JV) the tournament is played in a single-elimination format.

The YCLA Tournament is managed by the YCLA Executive Board Competition Subcommittee.

Tournament Format

True Swiss	U9, U11	For this tournament type, the YCLA Tournament is played in a True Swiss format. Each participating team plays three games which are randomly selected. At the end of the tournament, teams are ranked according to the number of points each scored during the course of their games. This tournament type is considered non-competitive and coaches should strive to ensure adequate playing time for all players.
Single-Elimination	U13, U15, JV	For this tournament type, the YCLA Tournament is played in a Single-Elimination format. Each participating team is guaranteed one game in the randomly seeded opening round and can only advance to a later round by winning games. This tournament type is considered competitive and coaches should attempt to win games. The team that wins the championship is deemed the 'YCLA Champion' at their level for the current year.

Game Timing & Rules	All games will be played with 12 minute running quarters to ensure games remain on schedule and to reduce officiating costs. Breaks between quarters are limited to two minutes and the halftime break is limited to five minutes. All games will be played under the NFHS Boy's Lacrosse Rules for the current year with the US Lacrosse Recommended Modifications to those rules for each age level. These rules do not represent a change from regular season YCLA play.
Sideline Behavior	It is the responsibility of each head coach to have a sideline manager in place and to insure the following are adhered to: All fans, parents, family members, brothers, etc…must sit on the opposite side of the field. There is to be no one behind the bench areas except for players and assistant coaches. Assistant coaches must stay in the coach’s box during the game as do the head coaches and neither can coach from outside the box area or opposite sideline. The time keepers and the scorekeepers are considered an extension of the officials on the field, and as such, must remain quiet during the games. They cannot cheer, comment or coach from the center tables.
Ties & Overtime	No tournament games are permitted to end in a tie. In the event a game is tied at the end of four regulation quarters, subsequent 12 minute running quarters will be played in sudden death fashion (first goal scored wins) until a winner is determined.
Weather Policy & Game Cancelations	In the event of inclement weather, games will still be played, if possible. In the event of thunder and/or lightning during a game, the game will be delayed based on the 30 minute rule. The host club is responsible for canceling games, if necessary. If a host club wishes to cancel a game, notice must be sent to the YCLA schedule coordinator at least three hours prior to the game start time. The host club is also responsible for contacting coaches for the teams scheduled to play on the field at least three hours prior to the game start time. For True Swiss tournament games, if canceled, the games will not be made up and will be scored 5-5. For Single-Elimination tournament games, if canceled, the schedule will be readjusted, if possible, to ensure all games are played.
Rosters (U9-U15)	Rosters for each level of play are to be limited to players who were officially rostered at that level (or lower) during the regular season. Players are not permitted to play at multiple levels during this tournament. Example 1: A regular season U15 player who qualifies based on age for U13, cannot play at the U13 level in the tournament. Example 2: A regular season U11 player who plays for their U13 team in the tournament cannot also play for their U11 team in the tournament.
Rosters (JV)	JV teams are required to provide a roster to the opposing head coach 10 minutes prior to the opening faceoff for each game. This roster should be limited to only those players rostered as JV during the regular season. For those teams with less than 16 true JV players available, Varsity players may fill out the roster up to a total player count of 16. Those Varsity players must be noted on the roster submitted to the opposing head coach and they must not be Varsity starters.
Host Club Definition & Responsibilities	A host club is defined as a club that maintains a field on which tournament games are played. Host clubs are responsible for ensuring their fields are properly lined and maintained and have regulation goals on them. Host clubs hold the exlcusive right to sell concessions at all games for which they are the host club.
Home Team Definition & Responsibilities	The home team is defined as a team playing on it's home field. For games where teams are playing on a neutral site, the first team listed on the schedule is to be considered the home team. The home team is responsible for providing a scoring table, a timekeeper, a scorekeeper, the official rule book, balls for the endlines, cones for the field, a clock, a scoreboard and a horn. The home team is also responsible for resolving any jersey color conflicts by being prepared to switch to an alternate color jersey if requested by the officiating crew. Additionally, the home team must report the final score for each game to the YCLA schedule coordinator.
Officials & Fees	For the True Swiss tournaments, one official will be used per game and the cost is $25.00 per team, per game. For the Single-Elimination tournaments, two officials will be used per game and the cost is$50.00 per team, per game. Each team must be prepared to pay officials their portion of the cost prior to each game. The officials coordinator will handle scheduling officials for games.
Game Locations	The schedule lists the location for each game. The physical location of all fields can be found on the YCLA Field Location Map.
Score Reporting & Forfiets	It is the responsibility of the home team to report scores to the YCLA schedule coordinator after each game. The coordinator's contact information is sent to all coaches via email. Forfeits will be scored 5-0 for True Swiss tournaments and will be scored 1-0 for Single-Elimination tournaments.
